Arbor Day Tree Giveaway

May 4 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

The Head of the Harbor Village tree committee and Avalon are collaborating on a special event in observance of Arbor Day! We will be running a table adjacent to the boardwalk which will consist of tree planting demonstrations, educating the public on the importance of native plants in the landscape, and we’ll be handing out bareroot tree saplings for visitors to take home!

Kayla and Sue will also be doing native tree tours- we will be taking groups up to the labyrinth and the front end of the preserve to point out a few of our local tree species. The goal of this program is to celebrate Arbor Day by hosting a public outreach event encouraging the local community to plant native trees.

We will need helpers for the tree giveaway and tree tours! Volunteers will assist handing out trees, speaking to the general public and joining us on a few short walks/hikes through the preserve. We will be meeting at the Avalon office located at 200 Harbor Road, Stony Brook NY 11790.

**Volunteers are welcome to sign up for a half day or full day since this is a longer event. If you are doing a half day, please email me with the time frame (9:30 AM-12:00 PM or 11:30 AM-2:00 PM) you would like to attend for after signing up.**
