**All trails west of Rhododendron Road previously closed due to storm damage have reopened as of 8/21/20**


Please be aware that the boardwalk entrance to Avalon Nature Preserve will remain closed until the completion of our construction which has recently resumed.  Trails east of Rhododendron Drive will remain closed during this work- please enter the preserve from Rhododendron Drive or Shep Jones Lane. Remember that the only permitted parking in the preserve is in the lots on Shep Jones Lane.


We also ask that visitors continue to practice the recommended social distancing of at least six feet while visiting the preserve. Please also wear a mask or face covering where social distancing may be difficult or impossible.




The boardwalk entrance is located at 200 Harbor Road, Stony Brook, NY.

Parking is available along Main Street, on Harbor Road, and in the shopping center just past the Preserve on Main Street.


Avalon Nature Preserve is free and open to the public.
