We are partnering with the Stony Brook Yacht Club to run a shellfish aquaculture program raising Eastern oysters and hard shelled clams. Now in its twelfth year, the goals are to improve water quality, promote the health of tidal wetlands, and to reintroduce stocks of cultured species for restoration purposes. Although this is a specialized stewardship project by application only, we occasionally are short on volunteers and could use the help of other Nature Initiative participants! Join us to measure the growth rates of oysters and clams and to do some water quality sampling in our local harbor.

WHAT TO BRING/FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS:

• Clothing: water wicking clothing, rain boots or water shoes (we’ll have extra waders)
• Hat/sunscreen/bugspray
• Water bottle
