You may have noticed us out on the trails, along the boardwalk or in the parking lots on Shep Jones Lane. As we prepare for an expansion of over 70 acres, our volunteers have been assisting on visitor counts. These “foot traffic surveys” are important in making informed land management decisions in order to maintain a healthy balance between plants, animals and people. Achieving this balance is critical especially as we continue to work on restoring pristine native habitat.

We are looking for students to assist us on a weekday/weekend count for April- our goal is to achieve a 12 month data set. There will be 2 locations in the preserve which we will be rotating through:  one group at the East Farm Preserve and a second group at the parking lot on Shep Jones Lane. You will have clickers and data sheets to compile a count of visitors.

Its not one of our most physically demanding projects, but a satisfying and impactful one. We will also be setting up a nature sketching activity to integrate while we are out in the preserve. Come enjoy the trails and have some conversation while gathering useful data. Our security staff are very grateful to be able to have volunteers for this effort!

We will be meeting at the Avalon Barn located on Shep Jones Lane in Saint James.

 

**Volunteers are welcome to sign up for a half day or full day since this is a longer event. If you are doing a half day, please email me with the time frame (9:00 AM-12:00 PM or 12:00 PM-3:00 PM) you would like to attend for after signing up.**
