These surveys will consist of us splitting into smaller groups which will be at 3 locations in the preserve: one group will monitor the front entrance, one group at the East Farm Preserve and a third group at the parking lot on Shep Jones Lane. You will have clickers and data sheets to compile a count of visitors.

By doing this, we are evaluating the amount of people we have occupying land area at any given time, how park rangers can be distributed, and most importantly how we can maintain this beautiful preserve for people to enjoy without doing any damage to the landscape or having interference with wildlife. Trying to maintain a harmonious balance at Avalon is a big job that we need many helpers with!

We are hoping to conduct these surveys for the next several months and could use your help. Its not one of our most physical demanding projects, but a satisfying and impactful one. Come enjoy the preserve, have some conversation, and relax for an afternoon while gathering some useful data. Our security staff are very grateful to be able to have volunteers for this effort!

We will be meeting at the Avalon Barn located on Shep Jones Lane in Stony Brook.
