March 12, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER- RESCHEDULED DATE TBD

If you are looking to get hands on with a vine cutting/removal work day, come and join us! We will be working along the meadow edges to do a clean up of these woody vines and other invasive plants. Be prepared to use loppers, pruning shears and other clipping tools to help clean out this area. We will be meeting at the main entrance parking lot at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve in Lloyd Harbor.

At roughly 1,500 acres, Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve is situated on a scenic peninsula offering miles of bridle paths, walking, jogging, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and nature trails over acres of woodland, meadows, rock shoreline and salt marsh. As a significant coastal fish and wildlife habitat and a designated Bird Conservation Area, Caumsett is home to more than 200 species of birds. (NYS DEC)

In 2009, a large colony of Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly was noted at Caumsett State Park and is still believed to be the only area (on Long Island) where they are nesting.  The native plants throughout the meadows serve as an attractant for pollinators and will help safeguard this beautiful area in the park.

*Due to the further drive, parents are welcome to stay and walk around the park for this event
