MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR VISIT TO AVALON

Avalon Nature Preserve is located on Harbor Road in Stony Brook, NY. Avalon is FREE and open to the public year round. Parking is available along Main Street, on Harbor Road, and in the shopping center just past the Preserve on Main Street. Additional parking is available on Shep Jones Lane to access the Forest Sanctuary.

Observe, Don’t Disturb

Please consider yourself as a guest of the flora and fauna inhabiting Avalon. Stay on trail, tread lightly and open your senses to the habitat surrounding you. These open spaces need our nurture and respect.

Leave no trace

Our preserve has a carry in-carry out philosophy. You won’t see any garbage cans in the preserve. Nor will you find bathroom facilities. Remember-the best footprint you can leave in the woods is no footprint.

Dogs Welcome

Dogs need a place to be wild, just like all of us. We ask that you follow a few simple rules when visiting with your canine companion: Dogs must be leashed at all times and the humans being walked must pick up after their dog friends.

Navigating our trails

Avalon offers approximately 5 miles of trails for your boot soles. Click on the link below for an interactive map and then get up and get moving. Remember that trails allow us to minimize our impact on a natural habitat-please stay on them as you travel in the preserve.
