Young’s Island is a man made dredged island about half a mile long located in Stony Brook Harbor, running parallel to Sand Street Beach. It serves as nesting grounds for many species of migratory shorebirds. In order to get to Young’s Island we will need to take a short kayak trip across the channel. Be ready to paddle and learn more about the birds that use this strip of sand as a stopover route~ all while helping to protect them!
We are making an effort to clean this area twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring to ensure the health and safety of our local birds.
RAINDATE: Sunday, October 24th at the same time
We will be meeting in the first parking lot on Shore Road in Stony Brook adjacent to the marina (across the street from the Three Village Inn) where we will be launching our kayaks.
