Youngs Island Beach Cleanup

September 30 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

Young’s Island is a man made dredged island about half a mile long located in Stony Brook Harbor, running parallel to Sand Street Beach. It serves as nesting grounds for many species of migratory shorebirds. Be ready to paddle across the channel to Youngs Island and learn more about the birds that area as a stopover route while we conduct a beach cleanup. This is a full day event!

We will be meeting in the first parking lot on Shore Road in Stony Brook adjacent to the marina where we will be launching our kayaks.

RAINDATE: Sunday, October 1st

What to bring/further instructions:

  • Clothing: Please wear water resistant clothing or something that might get a little wet and layer up- it will feel colder on the water then on land! You can always bring a change of shoes but I would recommend water shoes or something similar to kayak, sneakers will get wet but should be worn for the cleanup portion.
  • Bagged lunch and snack
  • Water bottle
  • Backpack to put extra layers in
