Virtual Winter Lecture Series: Coastal Resiliency & Preventing Harmful Algal Blooms

January 7, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

Prepare to go into science lab as Dr. Christopher Gobler of Stony Brook University gives us a closer look at harmful algal blooms, explaining what these are, how toxins get into our local waterways, and how we can remedy this on our coasts. Christopher has been instrumental on the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program where the first living oyster reef (on Long Island) was installed and on the NY State Restoration Council which was an initiative put forth by our governor.  We’ll also learn how oysters and clams are being used to combat nutrient overloading in the marine ecosystem.

Please sign up early to ensure your spot! The Zoom link will be emailed to you after registering.
