As an educational outreach tool, one of our astronomers, David B, had the idea to create a walk through model of the solar system for the public to tour during the observatory events. This will be scaled down to fit within the two meadows on either side of the barn. Visitors will be able to start at the “Sun” (by the Skylab) and go through the exhibit viewing each of the planets in relative scale to their distance from the sun. We would love to have your help on this unique project!
We will resume working on the assembly, painting and gluing to prepare this model to be put to use on future public astronomy events. Feel free to join us even if you missed the first session!
We will be meeting at the Avalon Barn located on Shep Jones Lane in Stony Brook.

Ours will be similar but on a smaller scale (without the signage)
