Our astronomers who run the observatory and planetarium programs at Avalon came up with a new, innovative program called Solar Sundays. On two Sundays a month, they will open the barn gates to the public where park visitors may come to the observatory area to learn more about different aspects of the sun. David B and David C will use the telescope to show sunspots in hydrogen and magnesium light
We are calling on our students who have an interest in astronomy or who would like to learn more to serve as helpers for this unique program. You will show visitors where the observatory is, tell them more about the Solar Sunday program, and help the David’s run the show! This is a fun opportunity to do some outreach with the public while earning community service hours.
We will be meeting at the Avalon Barn located on Shep Jones Lane in Stony Brook.
*This event is WEATHER DEPENDENT since it is fully outdoors. If there is inclement weather, we will reschedule.
