Plants for Wildlife- Sweetbriar Nature Center

October 7, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

Come pitch in to do some fall planting in our community gardens! Native plants are important to us in so many ways, many of which we don’t realize. We will take a break from our other tasks to investigate ecological relationships by surveying which plant types attract the most pollinators and how insects are using leaves and/or flowers (eating leaves, drinking nectar, shelter, interactions). We will be meeting at Sweetbriar Nature Center located on Eckernkamp Drive in Smithtown.

This project is eligible for Stewardship Superheroes. For more information click here. If you are in Stewardship Superheroes please bring your program materials to this event. If you are interested in joining this long term project, I will have extra materials available.

What to bring/further instructions:

  • Water bottle
  • Pair of garden gloves
  • Hat/bugspray
  • Clothing: long pants, high socks (in case of ticks), long sleeves, sneakers- clothing may get a little dirty
