Plants for Wildlife- Kings Park Library

September 24 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

Come pitch in to help us maintain wildlife friendly gardens in our community! Native plants are important to us in so many ways, many of which we don’t realize. We will take a break from our other tasks to investigate ecological relationships by surveying which plant types attract the most pollinators and how insects are using leaves and/or flowers (eating leaves, drinking nectar, shelter, interactions). If we compile our observations among the various locations we may learn a thing or two about which plants seem to be the most popular! This provides a great opportunity for community science. We will be meeting at the Smithtown Library- Kings Park Building, located on Church St in Kings Park.

What to bring/further instructions:

  • Water bottle
  • Pair of garden gloves
  • Hat/bugspray
  • Clothing: long pants, high socks (in case of ticks), long sleeves, sneakers- clothing may get a little dirty
