Sweetbriar Community Gardening Day

July 23 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

We’ll be assisting Master Gardener, Maddy, alongside other volunteers, with getting rid of pesky weeds/vines, pruning and planting. Due to having the assistance of our hard-working volunteers over the years, visitors and staff are always excited to see these beautiful blooming flowers attracting wildlife at the nature preserve. Come pitch in to help us plant and maintain these expansive gardens in our community, we might even meet a wildlife resident!

Sweetbriar was also a recipient of the ReWild Long Island grant this year, which promotes biodiversity and climate resilience using native perennials as a core component of the design. These gardens are important as “pollinator stopovers” for native and migratory fauna and insects. Free of pesticides and harmful chemicals, sustainable gardens clean our soil, water and air for a healthier Long Island.

We will meet at Sweetbriar Nature Center located on Eckernkamp Drive in Smithtown.
