Native Habitat Garden at Kings Park Library

May 14, 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

We will pair up with Four Harbors Audubon Society to tend to native habitat gardens at some of the local library branches. Due to having the assistance of our hard-working volunteers over the years, library visitors and staff are always excited to see these beautiful blooming flowers attracting wildlife right outside their windows. Come pitch in to help us maintain these expansive gardens in our community!

Native plants are important to us in so many ways, many of which we don’t realize. This year, we will take this project to the next level by investigating ecological relationships. This will consist of surveying which plant types attract the most pollinators and how insects are using leaves and/or flowers (eating leaves, drinking nectar, shelter, interactions). If we compile our observations among the various locations we may learn a thing or two about which plants seem to be the most popular! This provides a great opportunity for community science.

We will be meeting at the Kings Park Library located at: 1 Church St, Kings Park NY 11754
