Great Backyard Bird Count

February 21, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is back! The GBBC was a community science effort created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society with the objective of collecting as much data as possible on birds worldwide throughout a 4-day period.

We will have several experts here from the Four Harbors Audubon chapter to teach us all about bird identification. They will give us the basics of what to look and/or listen for and we’ll be hiking throughout Avalon to do a bird count. You do not have to be an avid birder in order to participate! If you are interested in birding or doing a nature walk to help out with counting animals, then come and join us! We will be meeting at the barn located on Shep Jones Lane in Stony Brook.
