There is an evident overpopulation of the white-tailed deer on much of Long Island, especially our area in Stony Brook. We’ve been working on a study with the Humane Society and another aspect of this program is to monitor the number of individual deer in the landscape, analyze herd/family structure, observe behaviors/movements and record data on fawning rates. We will be walking around Avalon to monitor does and their fawns. If you’d like to get a glimpse of what wildlife research is like in the field, this will be a great opportunity for you!
We will be meeting at the Avalon Barn located on Shep Jones Lane in Stony Brook.
