Crane Neck Beach Cleanup

March 12, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

This will be our last seal walk of the season! Come join us to learn more about seals, and the procedures of recording counts, species, behavior and other relevant observations. Although there isn’t necessarily a guarantee to see seals in the wild, we will certainly try and pick up marine debris along the way that could be adversely affecting the habitat of these animals. We’ll focus more of our efforts on a beach cleanup this time and we’ll weigh what we collected at the end to measure our impact.

We will be meeting at Crane Neck Beach in Old Field.

Field Biologist Thayliah set up a spotting scope to practice observing animals

Please keep in mind that the temperatures will be significantly lower on the beach so please dress accordingly and wear comfortable sneakers/waterproof boots for walking (i.e. rain boots).

What to Bring/Further Instructions:

  • Extra layers- hat, gloves, thick socks
  • Backpack or bag to hold extra layers
  • Sunglasses/hat
  • Water bottle
  • Binoculars (I will have extra)
