Crane Neck Beach Cleanup

March 20 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

If you’ve joined us for our past sea turtle monitoring and/or seal walks at Crane Neck, you may have noticed this area accumulates an excess of marine debris (especially near Crane Neck Point). During our last visit we collected 58 pounds of trash in less than two hours! This is an area that requires more attention, so we’ll be returning to do a cleanup. We will log the types of materials we found as a group into the marine debris tracker app and we will weigh the amount of debris accumulated at the end of the activity while discussing impacts on the marine environment.

We will be meeting at Crane Neck Beach in East Setauket.

What to bring/further instructions:

  • Please dress warm and wear layers
  • Hiking boots with thick socks
  • Hat/sunglasses
  • Binoculars (if you have)
  • Water bottle
