Cold Stun Sea Turtle Monitoring Pt II

December 18, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

This is our LAST cold stun monitoring walk!  Join us for a beach walk with AMCS to scan the area for stranded/cold stunned sea turtles. This is the time of year where sea turtles should be migrating offshore to deeper waters or down south for the winter and sometimes they become exposed to our cold waters for too long and end up getting hypothermic or “cold stunned”. AMCS staff rely on public engagement and often receive reports of cold stunned or stranded animals in the marine environment. We don’t know what’s out there unless we are prepared to look for it!

We will be meeting at Crane Neck Beach located at the intersection of Crane Neck Rd and Beach Path E in Old Field.

What to bring/further instructions:

  • Please dress warm and wear layers- it is often colder on the beach!
  • Sneakers or closed toed shoes comfortable for walking on the sand
  • Gloves (for picking up marine debris on the beach)
  • Binoculars (I will have extra)
