A Day in the Life of the Nissequogue River

October 7 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Please note, this event is for registered for Nature Initiative members only. To learn more about our youth program, click here.

This is a wonderful community science event to collect data on our local estuary! This project is coordinated by a team of environmental organizations to highlight the ecological conditions from the headwaters to the mouth of the Nissequogue River. Many schools and organizations such as ours participate each year at multiple rivers/estuaries around Long Island collecting data on water quality, biological data (types of organisms present), tides/currents, weather and physical characteristics of the site. Join us for a fun afternoon in the water for science! We will be meeting at Paul T Given County Park in Smithtown.

What to bring/further instructions:

  • Clothing that can get a little bit wet (we will be in waders but any material that is breathable or wicking is helpful)
  • Water shoes, rain boots or old sneakers
  • Hat/sunglasses/sunscreen/bugspray
  • Water bottle
